2. Journey – Everyday Christian Devotionals

Hey there, it’s Gabe from Deltona Aluminum.  As I said in the last video, since the onset of our business we made a public commitment to put Christ first in everything we do.  Our tagline, if you want to call it that, is “Serving Jesus Christ and you.”  That’s not a sales pitch–it’s a reminder that I need to prioritize Jesus as King over all that I do each and every day.

Right now we’re going through six different themes with these videos: Awakening, Journey, Work, Family, Reflection, and Rest.  These represent the six parts of the day where we can choose to turn our focus to Christ Jesus

Let’s read this passage from the Bible:

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—

    where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord,

    the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—

    he who watches over you will not slumber;

indeed, he who watches over Israel

    will neither slumber nor sleep. 

The Lord watches over you—

    the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 

the sun will not harm you by day,

    nor the moon by night. 

The Lord will keep you from all harm—

    he will watch over your life; 

the Lord will watch over your coming and going

    both now and forevermore.

Almost every one of us wakes up with a journey ahead of us.  It could be a car ride to work; it could be a trip to see a loved one; it could be taking our kids to soccer practice; it could even be to run some important errands.  

God not only watches over us, but he is with us even during the transitions of our day.  The Psalm that we read is what’s called the “Traveler’s Song.”  It is encouraging to know that God presides over every step that we take.  This is important because many times we find that in our journey there are bumps and unexpected turns that inevitably come our way.  

If we know that God with us on our journey–even to the supermarket–we can start seeing interruptions as part of the journey he wants us to take.  Suddenly, the things that threaten to ruin our day become holy moments where we get to see God work in us and through us.  Perhaps God wants to teach us something about others.  Perhaps God wants to use us to teach others something about himself.

Wherever we might be going today, let us remember that God is in full control and that He is our help and guide.  He is the Lord over our travels; He is the ruler of time and space.  And finally, let us remember that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, for those called according to his purpose.
